Riviera Maritime Media has merged two of its technical journals, The Cruise Ship and Ferry Technology, beginning with the August/September 2008 issues, to form Passenger Ship Technology. The cruise ship and ferry markets have much in common from a technical point of view, and a title covering both has always been an option considered by RMM. The decision to merge the journals was a response to readers' requests for a larger journal that is able to cover more topics in depth.
The Cruise Ship and Ferry Technology both focused on the ships themselves, and this approach continues with Passenger Ship Technology. As well as all sizes of cruise ships, tonnage covered includes small domestic ferries, High Speed Craft code-compliant ferries, so-called conventional Solas ferries, and freight ferries.
Maintaining the successful format already established in Ferry Technology and The Cruise Ship, coverage includes interviews with key industry owners, operators and suppliers, market analysis, technical product reviews, ship descriptions, safety reviews and accident reports. Other topics include ship design, construction, equipment, propulsion, emissions, interior outfit, bridge equipment, electronics, fire protection, lifesaving appliances, and R&D. The brief also encompasses shoreside equipment and systems that handle the flow of passengers, luggage, vehicles, freight, stores and waste.
